The Pre-Examination Coaching Centre, Bangalore University was established in 1986.  The Centre has been training students belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Religious Minorities and Other Backward Communities who appear for competitive examinations like I.A.S, K.A.S, F.D.A, and S.D.A.  The initial group of luminary directors and teachers set a tradition of commitment and devotion to work from which the Centre has immensely benefited.  During the last two decades, through ample revisions, it has oriented itself towards a broad vision of Training.  At present, the Centre has an Advisory Committee headed by the Vice- Chancellor and a team of sixteen members consisting of eminent teachers and administrators.  The number of students who get trained per year is around 225.

• To become a meaningful Centre for Competitive Examination's Training to students belonging to deprived sections of society.
• To extend the frontiers of Training to include not only Class Room teaching but also multimedia methodologies.
• To sensitize the students to life-worlds around them even as they get trained to meet the challenges of globalization and modernization.
  
  

• To work towards an egalitarian society.
• To make optimum use of modern technology in all pedagogical endeavours.
• To conduct psychological counseling to help students overcome stress and gain enough mental strength to handle everyday problems as well as academic predicaments.
• To sensitize students to all issues of inequality in society by arranging seminars and workshops on these themes and making them active participants in those.
  
  

Teachers invited to the Centre to impart training are highly qualified and have the specialization and expertise to motivate and inspire students.

The Centre has two class rooms, LCD projector, Over Head Projector, Television, Audio System, Photocopier, Computer and a library with more than 1200 books spanning the knowledge-areas of History, Polity, Geography, Economics, Mental Ability, and Science & Technology. There are also encyclopedias, autobiographies, English, Kannada, Urdu language books, and books on Current Affairs.  The Centre is subscribing to twenty leading magazines & journals and six newspapers.
